I'm not pretty

"Don't be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God." - 1 Peter 3:3-4

This week I feel like God redirected my focus after getting distracted (for what's felt like the millionth time) by what the world has to offer. He told me that it doesn't matter what our culture says the ideal girl or boy should look like, it only matters what He thinks. My problem with hearing that again is that I've heard it so many times it has become numb to my mind. After a week of digging deeper into it, God opened my eyes again to how much I'm worth to Him.

I've been hearing about how God feels about me, but I haven't actually been listening to it.
Instead of agreeing with what the Devil has to say about what I see in the mirror and letting it get the best of me, I have to start actually listening when Jesus tells me I'm enough and not shut Him out. I have to deny the lies, even if most of my morning consists of me standing in the mirror trying to feed myself truth. It'll be way better than spending tons of time in the mirror trying to fix the way I look.

Beauty is an amazing gift from God that should be enjoyed, and no amount of beauty or compliments can replace the fulfillment you find in your relationship with Jesus Christ. Reminding yourself of truth when you find yourself getting distracted is very important! I pray that if you struggle with this too that you'll start to remind yourself of your worth and deny the lies. Try writing a Bible verse on your mirror or writing truth on a sticky note and sticking it some place you look at often. Don't stop searching for truth either, constantly talk to God and learn from Him.

I am not pretty.

I am marvelous.

I am loved by the one who created the galaxy and filled the oceans. The one who created the mountains and the tallest trees cherishes me. I am a prized possession of the same God who created every flower,  who sends rain and lightning down to earth and colors every sunset. He has blessed me with the gift to sew and be friendly. He has given me much creativity and an amazing family. He has given me a beautiful cause and has chosen me and given me the ability to chose love.

So when you look at me remember, I am not pretty.      I am marvelous.

Wear It's At: Day-To-Day

Hello everyone, I hope you're all having amazing days! Today I'm sharing with you the first post of a new series I'm starting called "wear it's at!" This series will involve styling tips and my advice on what to wear depending on where you're going or what you plan on doing. In this blog post, I will be giving you advice on how to be stylish when dressing for nothing specific, just daily life!

Tip#1) Wear what YOU want to wear, don't dress to impress anyone! (except yourself)

This tip goes for dressing for any occasion! Never ever wear something that you don't like or wear just to impress someone (unless it's for a good reason like dressing to impress for a job interview or something). Being truly stylish starts when you begin to be yourself and wear what you want to wear. Also, dressing to impress people (and just trying to impress anyone altogether) is totally overrated anyway. It only matters what God thinks of you and in His eyes you're worth more than 100,000,000 pounds of the most rare diamonds on earth!!

Tip #2) Wear something comfortable.

When I say wear something comfortable, I don't mean throw on some sweatpants and a T-shirt (although it's totally up to you if that's what you want to wear). What I mean is don't dress in a way that makes you uncomfortable. If wearing dresses and high heels everyday makes you uncomfortable, then do your best to switch it up a little. Try wearing cute flats instead of high heels, and some days it's more than okay to throw on a t-shirt and some jeans! Part of mastering day-to-day style is being comfortable in what you're wearing. You'll feel a lot better than you would if you were wearing something you didn't like or something uncomfortable, and you will able to get a lot more done!

Tip#3) Accessories are a girl's best friend!

(Really it's 'Diamonds are a girl's best friend,' but I'm changing it up a bit). Pretty necklaces, bracelets, headbands, earrings, a scarf, small handbags, and other accessories can take your day-to-day outfit from gross to glamorous and trashy to trendy! First initial necklaces, hair jewels, charm bracelets, galaxy-themed jewelry, and floral-themed jewelry are all very popular right now. If you want to know more about the latest trends, go read my blog post from the 14th. Accessories have their own special way of making every outfit complete and unique. They're one of my favorite things to put on whenever my outfit is looking a little crummy.

Tip#4) Neutral colors.

White, black, cream, brown, and other neutral colors are always a good choice and fairly easy to work with. I like the idea of wearing all black, or wearing a cream top, white pants, and shoes that  compliment your outfit. These colors make your outfit look simple, but stylish. A neutral-based outfit has never failed me! You could also pair them with patterned and printed clothing items like floral prints, stripes, etc.

Tip#5) Get creative and try new things!

Get unique with your outfits and try lots and lots of new things!! Never worn a skirt with sneakers before? Go for it! Your style won't improve unless you try new things and start thinking creatively!

I know I didn't say many things about daily style (be on the lookout for a part 2), but I guarantee you that you can do great things with the tips I've left you today! Thank you for reading this post. Be on the lookout for more posts on the series "Wear it's At." Subscribe to my blog and you can read my new blog posts when they come out. And until next time...
